Silent Longing is a touching true story about the joy and sorrow of trying to become a parent. The film tells about two childless couples, who use infertility treatments to help them get a biological child of their own.
The film shows an emotional journey of man and woman through endless hospital visits where their life is divided between home and clinic. Uncertainty about the future and infertility treatments with their side effects challenge the relationships. Childlessness forces the characters to make difficult decisions and think about their lives, its meaningfulness and future - with or without a child. The idea of one's own child turns into a silent longing with no certainty of fulfillment.
Silent Longing tells how much involuntary childlessness can hurt oneself. The protagonists of the film aren’t unique in this sense – childlessness is very common nowadays and for example in Finland every fifth couple faces challenges in getting a child by themselves.
